Started in 1981, The Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama School of Nursing, Vrindavan is duly recognised by the U.P. State Medical Faculty and the Indian Nursing Council. It follows the syllabus, rules and regulations prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council for three years General nursing and midwifery diploma course. A maximum of 30 girls are admitted in a single batch every year. The school provides free education, board and lodging to all its students. The medium of instructions is English. Students passing out from this institution are eligible to work any where in the country and abroad.

The motto of the sevashrama is service to man is service to god, thus serving the patients with the spirit of devotion and commitment regardless of caste, creed or religion. Hence the school trains the students to acquire knowledge, develop skills and positive attitude and enable them to carry out duties as competent, efficient professional nurses with the above ideal.

Qualification of admission: Pass in Intermediate (+2) with a minimum of 40% marks with Science/Arts/Commerce/Vocational Training. Age Limit: 17 to 35 years female, unmarried candidates Nationality: Must be an Indian and may belong to any State in India

Prospectus & application Form: Prospectus is available at office from the first of March each year. Around Rs.400/- may be sent by MO/DD to ‘The Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Sw. Vivekananda Road, Vrindavan-281121, Dist Mathura,UP’, clearly mentioning that amount is for ‘Prospectus charges’. The prospectus also contains the ‘Application Form’ and old question papers.

Admission procedure: The entrance examination is conducted during mid July. Those who have sent filled up forms are eligible to appear for entrance exam. The Entrance Test will be conducted in General English (25 marks), General Science (25 marks), General Knowledge (25 marks) with Multiple Choice Questions and a few Essay type questions. Exam time is 3 hours. Successful candidates will have to undergo interview. Interview panel will consist of Principal, Secretary, Asst Secretary, Tutor etc. The entire admission procedure is around 4 to 3 days. Approximately, on an average, 10 to 15 students appear per one seat and only 30 students are selected per annum based on merit.

Selected girl-student has to pay five thousand rupees as ‘refundable caution money’ deposit to confirm their admission. They will have to undergo medical test. Student will have pay charges for the medical test. Around fifty thousand rupees will have to be deposited by cash or cheque as ‘refundable security deposit’ during finalization of admission. Students will have to pay for examination fee & registration charges, as required by the UP state medical faculty.

Academic Year: The session starts on 1st October every year. Students receive General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) training for 3 years in an atmosphere conducive for their physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual development. Nursing tutors and students conduct Community Health project in various villages providing field training to the nursing students and community health services like motivation and awareness on health subjects, counseling programmes in baby care, food & nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, post immunization & HIV/ AIDS and adult education.

Co-curricular activities: The students can make use of the facilities like badminton, other indoor games, well equipped recreation room with TV, musical instruments, Library etc.

Award/ Prizes: Prizes and Medals are awarded annually to the students securing 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions in their annual examinations, Sports & other competitions. Scholarships are also awarded to the eligible candidates.

Internship/Practical training in the hospital: After completion of theory for 3 years, student will have to undergo practical training/internship in our 320 bed charitable hospital which is located in our own campus. During these 3 years, each student will be paid stipend about Rs.12,000/- to 15,000/-. They will have to work as a staff-nurse.

Excellence in Nursing Field: Those students who want to excel in their Nursing profession, after passing out the GNM course, will be provided special help for higher education etc by the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Vrindavan, with the help of Tata Trusts, Mumbai. Eligible students should contact to the ‘Secretary’ of the Mission.

General Rules: The students are not allowed to marry during training. Only Indian dresses are allowed to wear. Visit of parents/guardian is allowed once a month on any Wednesday/Sunday. Evening prayers are compulsory for the students if they are not on duty. The student nurses & staff nurses will have attended various celebrations/functions held in the Sevashrama, temple.

Job Placement: Due to high standard of education & training of nursing, there is 100% surety of employment just after the completion of GNM course of 6 years including practical training. Few famous hospitals like Apollo, Fortis etc and some private hospitals conduct, at the end of 6th year, ‘campus interview’ for the students who have completed GNM course. Few of the students get absorbed in Govt Health sector. There is tremendous demand for our Nursing students all over India due to high quality training and ‘seva oriented’ mind set developed (as per teachings of Swami Vivekananda) at our Free Nursing School. Every year one or two students get the jobs in foreign countries.
